Bear Town is an indoor children’s activity centre and role play experience – literally a miniature town for children to play in and be anyone who they want to be. It is less than a 20 minute drive from us and is definitely a one-of-a-kind attraction that younger children love.
There is a ‘main street’ with 12 different shops and buildings for children to explore and immerse themselves in. They can be a shopkeeper in the Farm shop, repair cars in the garage, assist in the Post Office, serve cakes in Cubs Café and build, or demolish, in the construction site!
If they aspire to be a firefighter or police officer they can put their skills to the test in the respective stations!
However, if a creative industry beckons they can take to the stage in the ‘South West End’ for a ‘Let it go’ or ‘We don’t talk about Bruno’ rendition or create different hair styles at ‘Pony & Pie’.
For children passionate about animals they can take care of pets (stuffed one’s!) at the Vet or next door they can create their own home in Strawberry Cottage.
Bear Town’s not only fun for children aged 1-7 but it has been designed to broaden their personal, social and emotional development, expand their communication and language skills and help them gain confidence. It definitely fulfils the motto of #learnthroughplay! This has been recognised through several awards they are currently short-listed for – including three in the Devon Tourism awards and a finalist in the Exeter Living awards!
At the end of each session there is a ‘tidy up song’ to encourage children to tidy up everything they have been playing with. It’s downloadable so you can take a little bit of Bear Town home with you and if you are lucky enough it may just do the trick at home too!
Bear Town is well worth a trip, the hairdressers and farm shop were a big hit when we visited. Next time we need to try out sister attraction the Bear Trail – the muddy family assault course – maybe one for the warmer months!
