We are really spoilt for choice of great places to eat out in Mid-Devon and over the past five years we’ve had the tough job of sampling many delicious dishes in all of them multiple times!

On our doorstep we have Bickleigh Mill which is a great place for lunch whether you just want to grab a quick sandwich, have something a bit more substantial or indulge in a yummy Devon cream tea. Just over Bickleigh Bridge is the Fisherman’s Cot pub a beautiful, picturesque setting on the river Exe serving traditional pub grub. If traditional pub classics are what you fancy you can also find these a short drive away at either the Butterleigh Inn or Lamb Inn country pubs.

There are a number of gastro pubs – situated in the charming village of Cheriton Fitzpaine the Ring of Bells is a favourite of ours, especially for Sunday lunch, they use good quality ingredients, cook it well and add some restaurant flair. There is also Devon’s oldest working brewery pub, the Beer Engine, housed in a 19th Century coaching inn, serving outstanding seasonal food and the scotch eggs in particular are amazing!

If you’re looking for a pub atmosphere with fine dining on the menu the Agricultural Inn creates exciting and innovative dishes using local produce. They also have a more relaxed al fresco option of the Secret Garden, an open paddock set amongst their orchard and veg garden, situated at the rear of the pub, open Friday – Sunday with a food truck serving tasty Asian street food.

If you’re craving a big, fat, juicy burger we can’t recommend the Beer Factory and Kitchen at Hanlon’s Brewery enough! Traditional steak, pulled pork, southern-fried chicken, they have it all and with mouth-watering side dishes that are definitely naughty but very nice! Open Thursday-Saturday.

The Red Ruby Café at the Exe Valley Farm shop serves home-cooked food with ingredients fresh from the farm including breakfasts, light bites, main meals and delicious home-made cakes daily.

If wood-fired inspired cuisine takes your fancy, the Lost Kitchen, is a great place set amongst the rolling hills of the Devon countryside in an old Cider barn. The pizzas are yummy and the menu also features wood-fired meat and fish dishes inspired from Europe. Situated very close to National Trust Knightshayes.

If you weren’t hungry before reading this you probably are now! With so many options and such a wide variety of food choices on offer in Mid-Devon you’ll definitely need to return again and again!
