Supporting the Devon County Shows Guinness World Record Attempt
This year marks the 125th Devon County show which has been rescheduled to 28th – 30th August. To celebrate this milestone, as well as the Women’s Institute’s 100th anniversary and the Exeter Knutty Knitters 10th anniversary, the Show organisers are planning an ambitious Guinness World Record attempt – to beat the Longest Knitted Bunting World Record.
The amount required to smash the existing record and give the Devon County Show its first ever Guinness World Record is 31,200 flags. It is estimated that the finished bunting will be 8km long.
We support local initiatives where possible and we thought this sounded like a fun and interesting challenge. We called upon the best knitters we know, our family, and provided them with balls of wool of the Valleyside Escapes colours and set them to work!
A huge THANK YOU to our dedicated knitters who spent many hours producing our contribution of flags.
The completed bunting will be auctioned off both during and post the show at various events to raise money for the Devon County Show’s nominated charity for 2020 – the Addington Fund dedicated to providing homes for farming families living in England and Wales who have to leave the industry, through no fault of their own, and by doing so will lose their homes.
We wish the Devon County Show and Exeter Nutty Knitters the very best of luck in breaking this world record and can’t wait to see it on display!
