The River Dart Country Park – Outdoors fun for everyone!

Jul 27, 2022 | Valleyside News

River Dart pirate shipWe visited the River Dart Country Park in Dartmoor National Park last summer and if you have children who love water and being outdoors this is the place to go! There are so many things to do in the 90 acres of parkland you will probably need to return!  There is a huge lake with a pirate ship boat in the middle that you can swim out to and explore. The river runs through the whole site so there are various different spots for paddling.

It’s not just about water either, spread throughout the park there are various different adventure spots – agility trails to test balance, assault courses to compete on, a huge castle to get lost in, a snake helter-skelter to scream in as you descend through the darkness, spider web nets to negotiate and zip wires to fly through the air on. River Dart_agility courseA particular favourite for us was the low rope course – a series of obstacles between a corridor of trees – it’s great for slightly younger children and adults can join in too – if they’re brave enough!

There is a café on-site or there are lots of places to take your own picnic. In addition, there are some dare devil activities – these are an additional cost but for those that like some adrenalin-fuelled fun the choices are endless including high ropes, zorb, climbing wall, bike trial and kayaking or canoeing.

The River Dart Country Park has won lots of awards in recent years and it’s easy to see why – it has something for the whole family and you’ll be entertained for the entire day in the great outdoors!
